Today I am talking about the green cheek conure! They are a super unique type of conure. While they can be moody at times, most birds will grow out of it when they hit maturity. However, all birds are different, which is why today I am talking about the pros and cons of GCC!

Unless the image is directly of my own pet, it is very safe to assume that I did not take that photo and you can find it on these sites. I will try to specify from video to video exactly what accents I use, but I may not always remember or be completely accurate because I create the thumbnails, videos and photos all at different times in the process of video creation.

Snipey is adoptable! Apply to adopt her here: https://roniesloveofbirds.com/adoption and please support your local bird rescue by making the birds safe toys to play with, fresh food or even fostering a parrot in need.

Special note: Capri kept calling Snipey “Sweet Pea” (what my mom used to call Capri when she was really little) and the rescue decided to call her that too since no one could properly pronounce her name. So if you call to adopt, ask for Sweet Pea!

We visited one of our favorite bird rescues, Ronie’s For the Love of Birds, and let my 7yr old daughter pick out a bird she wanted to work with and train for the two days we were visiting. She picked out Snipey the pineapple cheek conure, a female bird whose age is unknown but was surrendered to the rescue for biting her previous owners. Check out the progress we made with Snipey in just two days! Snipey, along with the other birds shown in this video, are all in need of committed, FOREVER homes. Please do not adopt a bird unless you are prepared to do so, otherwise you will likely be another home along the line of many that a rescue bird will get constantly passed from.

Happy Parrots Ep.1 – African forest sounds to play for your parrot | Discover PARROTS

Happy Parrots Ep.1 – African forest sounds to play for your parrot | Discover PARROTS

Play this video to your pet parrot, especially to Senegal parrots (Poicephalus senegalus). The sights and sounds of the West African tropical forests and savannah may help it feel better if left alone for hours in the house.

Please let me know in the comments below how your parrot reacted to this video. In episode 2 I will add sounds of senegals recorded at a close distance. What works best as and enrichment for your parrot?

I have designed the audio track by mixing a few recordings from a wet gallery forest, a dry coastal forest and the Gambian savannah, all frequented by Senegal parrots. Plus some recordings of flocks of wild sennies at a farm near a forst reserve.

All video and audio recorded in The Gambia by Florin Feneru and Monica Crugel.

Many thanks to our birdwatching and natural history guide to The Gambia, Musa Manneh:
